Brachial Plexus Injury

The brachial plexus is a network of nerves that is formed from the C5-T1 spinal nerve roots and innervates the upper extremity (arm). It runs between the clavicle and first rib within the axillary sheath, which contains the axillary vein and artery. The brachial plexus can be injured in a number of ways and can affect people of all ages. For brachial plexus injuries sustained during child birth, please visit the Shoulder Dystocia webpage or read the article "Understanding the Brachial Plexus Injury: Part 2 (Shoulder Dystocia)".
